(E) More information from the owner (and dealer) Noel Reid:
Back in 1969, Chevrolet released sixty-nine ZL1 all-aluminum 427 equipped Camaros for NHRA racing. Many of these hit the streets instead, creating the legend. These cars were underrated by GM for insurance purposes at 425 HP, but, in reality, these motors were pumping out close to 600 HP with Dyno tuned headers, making the ZL1 the nastiest street machine Chevrolet ever offered. The Camaro ZL1 was offered with a full 5-year 50,000 mile warranty. The ZL1 in standard configuration could easily run 11.6 at 122 MPH and was totally street legal. All this power had a price to it and a very hefty one at that. The ZL-1 engine alone cost $4,100 in 1969 and it pushed the price of the vehicle to a StarTrek level of $7,200. In fat, out of the total 69 that were built, 30 of them remained unsold unti the early 1970s. Don yenko had a great reputation for building dominating Chevrolets. In the early 1970s, GM produced its last ZL1 all-aluminum 427 engine and sold the engine rights to Yenko Performance, which was owned by Don Yenko who only produced optional accessories. (See the video for addition information about the Yenko engine and documentation related to it.)
Only 5 of these engines have ever been produced in the entire world.
