Text of poemHe taught me all the rules,
To serve between the lines.
He taught me that a woman can win,
It matters where I stand. He taught me that a net is there,
So I must pass around,
Then almost kneel, but not to pray,
To catch a yellow glare. He taught me about love, lets, sets,
And he taught me about balls.
He says I don't need two all the time.
I have to laugh when I hear a voice say:
“Kathy, drop the balls!”And I cross court with a childish smirk
That drips a bird from a cat within.
Sometimes I took up tennis
For my love of love, or my need of men.Sometimes my face is like a weathervane
And I face my opponent with litmus paper skin,
Turning blue to pink then pink to blue again.
That's when I remember my coach and his prescription. And all that is in opposition to his prescription.
That's when I remember “The Psychology of Winning!”
I leave the cackle from the dots of eyes,
And snip the ink that dares to box this pretty pink.
